MAC Beth Ditto Shade and Smoke Shadow/Liner in Beth Mask Review and Swatches

Most of MAC's collaborations yield new shades of existing products - a Chen Man inspired Lipglass, for example.

For their collaboration with Beth Ditto, MAC has taken a different route by introducing an entirely new product: a dual-ended eyeliner and cream shadow. Currently available in four bold pairings, MAC Beth Ditto Shade and Smoke Shadow/Liners ($22) are intended to give you everything you need for an edgy, fashion-forward eye look in a single tube.

MAC Beth Ditto Shade and Smoke Shadow/Liner in Beth Mask (get it? Rhymes with 'death mask') features a maroon-bronze eyeliner and a golden peach cream eyeshadow.

Sadly, while I like the idea of this product, I had trouble making MAC Beth Ditto Shade and Smoke Shadow/Liner in Beth Mask work for me.

The eyeshadow has a pretty, shimmery peach color that reminds me of Make Up For Ever Aqua Shadow in 26E. Unfortunately for MAC, I find the MUFE version to be creamier and easier to blend. I noticed MAC Beth Ditto Shade and Smoke Shadow tugging along my eyelids as I put it on and I had trouble blending it up into the crease.

That said, the eyeliner end of MAC Beth Ditto Shade and Smoke Shadow/Liner in Beth Mask is fine. The maroon-bronze color is pretty and has a nice sheen. However, the eyeliner is awfully chubby, so it's difficult to apply a thin line. I prefer my eyeliner to have more precision.

Granted, I am far from having the skills of a makeup artist, but my efforts to apply MAC Beth Ditto Shade and Smoke Shadow in Beth Mask ended up looking clumsy at best. I suppose I could use this product for a very basic eyeliner + lid color look, but why would I when there are better options out there? I just don't care for the formula and delivery system enough to keep trying with this one.

Has anyone else tried MAC Beth Ditto Shade and Smoke Shadow/Liner? How did it work for you?
