MAC Prep + Prime Highlighter in Light Boost ($23) was actually released in March, but MAC is currently marketing it as part of their newly-launched Casual Color collection. It makes sense too, because the product fits right in with the idea and aesthetic of MAC Casual Color.

MAC Casual Color Prep + Prime Highlighter in Light Boost is a quick, easy way to add instant radiance to your look. This creamy, liquid highlighter is housed in a tube with a pen brush tip that makes application a snap. Just brush it on under your eyes or on your cheekbones, blend, and you're ready to go.

This product is very reminiscent of Yves Saint Laurent's famous Touche Eclat, which is a classic pen-style luminizer. I haven't tried YSL's version, but it's worth noting that Touche Eclat costs $40 to MAC Prep + Prime Highlighter's $23 price tag.

MAC Casual Color Prep + Prime Highlighter in Light Boost is a pale golden cream shade. It looks overly yellow when swatched, but I found that it blends easily with my skin tone. I did notice that MAC Prep + Prime Highlighter only comes in three shades and they are all very pretty light. I think it's disappointing that MAC didn't make this product available in shades that would work for darker skin tones as well. Yves Saint Laurent's Touche Eclat, on the other hand, is available in 12 shades ranging from pale pink to rich mocha.

MAC Casual Color Prep + Prime Highlighter in Light Boost is not a heavy-duty concealer by any means. Instead, it gives a fairly sheer wash of color that adds luminosity and detracts from, rather than masks, dark circles. This product will likely not be enough if you are seeking heavy-duty coverage.

Overall, I am pretty happy with MAC Casual Color Prep + Prime Highlighter in Light Boost. I love the easy of the brush-on pen applicator, and I like how my eyes look brighter and more awake after I apply Light Boost to my dark circles. However, I am disappointed that MAC has not made this product available in shades to suit all skin tones.
