After experimenting with Chanel Beaute Des Ongles Mat Top Coat Velvet ($26), I can say that I fall firmly in the "Love" camp.

For these photos, I first applied two coats of Revlon Nail Enamel in Teak Rose ($4.99), which is a deep brownish wine color. While it's not really a summer shade, I thought the dark, redwood tones of Revlon Nail Enamel in Teak Rose would look fabulous and edgy with a matte finish. Then I applied Chanel Beaute Des Ongles Mat Top Coat Velvet on my thumb, index and middle fingers so you could see the Before and After.

I am so happy with the results! Chanel Beaute Des Ongles Mat Top Coat Velvet lightens the color of the polish a little bit and leaves a gorgeous, suede-like finish. After taking these photos, I applied the top coat to all of my nails and I can't stop admiring the chic matte look.
One word of warning: If your color polish is uneven or sheer in any spots, Chanel Beaute Des Ongles Mat Top Coat Velvet will magnify that and your nails will look smudgy. Be sure the apply several coats of even color before applying the top coat to achieve a perfect manicure.
Chanel Beaute Des Ongles Mat Top Coat Velvet has been available for almost a year, but it is marked as limited edition. I have no idea when it will be discontinued! It's still available on Nordstrom's website for the time being, so you may want to grab this unique, stylish product before it's gone.
I really like the matte! I think Essie has a matte top coat too, might be more in my price range!

Yay Essie! Yeah, the Chanel is quite pricey! Lucky for me, mine was a gift from a friend.
DeleteThe matte looks great! I just found the Sephora by OPI matte topcoat and it gives a similar finish to the Chanel. Though it looks the Chanel is a little more "velvet" as described. I hope more polishes come out with fun top coats!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that Sephora had released a matte top coat. I love so many of the Sephora brand products, I should check it out. I know they released a "black light" top coat that glows under black light -- not sure if that's the kind of fun top coat you're looking for, but I thought it was pretty funny!
DeleteI actually did pick up the UV Top Coat. It's supposed to brighten colors, glow in black light and change color in the sun. It brightens but not seeing it change color. It's more like it whitens/lightens in the sun. I was kind of disappointed as I wanted something to change like blue to orange or pink to green. Now , that would be interesting.
DeleteOo I like your idea quite a bit! Disappointing that the UV Top Coat doesn't change color in the sun like that.
