MAC Beth Ditto Pro Longwear Lipcreme in Dear Diary Review and Swatches

Attention, fuchsia fans:  MAC Beth Ditto Pro Longwear Lipcreme in Dear Diary ($17) is a positively NEON purple-pink that should satisfy all of your color cravings.

I feature a lot of bold lipsticks on this blog and I often profess my love for ultra vivid hues. And of all the fierce colors I have swatched, I can say with certainty that MAC Beth Ditto Pro Longwear Lipcreme in Dear Diary is the brightest lipstick I have ever tried.

MAC Beth Ditto Pro Longwear Lipcreme in Dear Diary is described as a "bright neon pink" on MAC's website, but it shows up as a highlighter-bright fuchsia on me. The color is definitely edgy, which I imagine is just how indie rock goddess Beth Ditto wanted it.

The texture of MAC Beth Ditto Pro Longwear Lipcreme in Dear Diary is incredible. The formula is ultra creamy with some sheen. I love the way it feels on my lips!

Unfortunately, although the pigmentation and formula are great, I don't think MAC Beth Ditto Pro Longwear Lipcreme in Dear Diary looks that good on me. Fuchsia is simply not my color! However, I'm sure there are plenty of gals with the right confidence and attitude to pull this one off perfectly.

Rock on, lovely ladies.

MAC Beth Ditto Zoom Lash Mascara in New Hue Review and Swatches

The idea of colored mascara may sound scary, but have no fear, MAC Beth Ditto Zoom Lash Mascara in New Hue ($15) is as subtle and wearable as they come.

Granted, I did select the least bold of the three new Zoom Lash mascaras from MAC's collaboration with singer Beth Ditto. The other two choices were navy blue and light violet, but I thought the deep, blackened plum color of New Hue would be the best choice to complement my blue-grey eyes.

The burgundy-purple color of MAC Beth Ditto Zoom Lash Mascara in New Hue shows up well when swatched, but it's not very bright or intense. In fact, I found that it was barely perceptible on my lashes. It didn't look like I was wearing colored mascara unless I was in direct sunlight.

MAC Beth Ditto Zoom Lash Mascara in New Hue
See? Without bright lighting, MAC Beth Ditto Zoom Lash Mascara in New Hue basically looks like a soft black mascara. I think the subtle color may have enhanced my blue eyes a little, but it's hard to say.

Color aside, MAC Beth Ditto Zoom Lash Mascara in New Hue is a great lengthening mascara. I use Latisse, and this mascara did a great job of coating my lashes and making the most of my new-found length. Plus, MAC Beth Ditto Zoom Lash Mascara in New Hue is very long-lasting and doesn't leave smudges under my eyes. The only downside I see with the formula is that this mascara doesn't do much to thicken your lashes. The effect is definitely more long and skinny than full and lush.

Bottom Line:  MAC Beth Ditto Zoom Lash Mascara in New Hue shows that colored mascara can be subtle and wearable, but the shade is ultimately too subtle for me. I would like to be able to see the color more easily. Formula-wise,  MAC Beth Ditto Zoom Lash Mascara in New Hue is a great long-lasting, lengthening mascara, but you might want to try something else if you want added fullness.

MAC Beth Ditto Lip Pencil in Embrace Me Review and Swatches

If you are a regular reader, you may recall that I had horrible luck with MAC Hey, Sailor! Lip Pencil in Shore Leave. I decided to give MAC lip pencils another try with Beth Ditto Lip Pencil in Embrace Me ($14), and I will say that it's an improvement, albeit not a staggering one.

I found that MAC Hey, Sailor! Lip Pencil in Shore Leave applied unevenly, looked chalky, and strongly accentuated lip lines. In contrast, MAC Beth Ditto Lip Pencil in Embrace Me applies much more evenly, has a smoother appearance, and gives lips a beautiful, plump shape. However, it still accentuates dry skin.

MAC Beth Ditto Lip Pencil in Embrace Me is a pretty bright fuchsia with pink. I like this color a lot, and I think it fits in well with Beth Ditto's candy-coated punk aesthetic.

MAC Beth Ditto Lip Pencil in Embrace Me does a great job of improving the wear time of lipstick. I wore it under MAC Beth Ditto Pro Longwear Lipcreme in Dear Diary ($17) and found that the color was intensified and the lipstick clung to my lips for much longer.

Bottom Line: I like MAC Beth Ditto Lip Pencil in Embrace Me more than other MAC lip liners that I've tried. The color is pretty and the liner improves the appearance and wear time of lipstick. However, I am still convinced that MAC could make the formula of their lip liners creamier so that they wouldn't accentuate lip imperfections so much.

Youngblood Luminous Creme Blush in Plum Satin Review and Swatches

Youngblood Luminous Creme Blush in Plum Satin
Youngblood Luminous Creme Blush in Plum Satin

To add a touch of radiance to your cheeks, try Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics' Luminous Creme Blush in Plum Satin ($27).

Released as part of Youngblood's new summer collection, Luminous Creme Blush in Plum Satin has a light, oil-free formula. The blush feels creamy in the pan, but once I spread it on my cheeks I noticed an almost mousse-like texture that allows for great blendability. Unlike some other cream blushes, Youngblood Luminous Creme Blush has a comfortable matte finish that doesn't feel greasy.

I was impressed by the great pigmentation of Youngblood Luminous Creme Blush in Plum Satin. While it is important for creme blushes to be somewhat sheer so that you don't overdo it, I get tired of having to apply layer after layer of overly sheer formulas. Not the case with Youngblood Luminous Creme Blush in Plum Satin, which amps the pigmentation up a notch while still being sheer enough for a natural look.

Although Youngblood Luminous Creme Blush in Plum Satin looks like a muted plum color in the pan, it looks like more of a dusty rose shimmer with hints of purple and red when swatched:

I think this color would look great on people with cool undertones, particularly with dark hair. I'm a warm-toned blonde, so Plum Satin is probably not the ideal shade of Luminous Creme Blush for me. Still, I was surprised by how good it looked when applied with a light touch:

In addition to the great texture and appearance of the formula, Youngblood Luminous Creme Blush in Plum Satin contains healthy, all-natural ingredients like Vitamins C and E and Allantoin, an effective anti-irritant. Youngblood Cosmetics are not tested on animals.

Overall, I'm impressed with Youngblood Luminous Creme Blush in Plum Satin. The pigmentation is fabulous and I love the light, non-greasy finish. The color is not the best for me, but I can imagine some cooler-toned ladies rocking this one. Youngblood Luminous Creme Blush is available in six shades so maybe I'll try Pink Cashmere, a medium tone pink, instead!

MAC Beth Ditto Nail Lacquer in Vagabondage Review and Swatches

MAC Beth Ditto Nail Lacquer in Vagabondage
MAC Beth Ditto Nail Lacquer in Vagabondage

MAC just keeps their new collections coming. For their latest release, the brand collaborated with Beth Ditto, lead singer and songwriter from the band Gossip. Beth Ditto, who is known for her flamboyant, punk rock style, sought to infuse high-energy, candy colors with a punk edge for this limited edition collection.

MAC Beth Ditto Nail Lacquer in Vagabondage ($16) is a creamy, mid-tone lavender pink. Beth Ditto definitely nailed the candy inspiration with this shade, which reminds me of jelly beans at Easter time. MAC Beth Ditto Nail Lacquer in Vagabondage is practically sugar high inducing!

MAC Beth Ditto Nail Lacquer in Vagabondage

I noticed that MAC Beth Ditto Nail Lacquer in Vagabondage applies more sheer than other MAC Nail Lacquers that I've tried. I am used to getting nearly full coverage from a single coat of MAC Nail Lacquer, but it was more like 2-3 with MAC Beth Ditto Nail Lacquer in Vagabondage.

What do you think of MAC Beth Ditto Nail Lacquer in Vagabondage? Are you excited about this new collaboration, or are you too overwhelmed by all of MAC's product releases to keep up?

Good Vibrations: Avon Sonic Boost Vibrating Mascara Review and Photos

Last minute deal alert!

I've been checking my local CVS for Maybelline Pulse Perfection Vibrating Mascara for ages, but they never have it in stock. Lucky for me, my mom sells Avon and told me that they have a vibrating mascara that I could try instead.

She hooked me up with Avon Sonic Boost Vibrating Mascara, and I am so impressed. The brush buzzes with subtle vibrations that allow the bristles to thoroughly and evenly coat your eyelashes. This results in extra long lashes that look light and fluttery instead of unnaturally heavy.

Plus, the vibrating brush separates your lashes. I usually have a lot of trouble with clumping, but I was thrilled with the definition and separation provided by Avon Sonic Boost Vibrating Mascara.

Sadly, it seems that Avon Sonic Boost Vibrating Mascara is being discontinued. On the plus side, it is currently marked down 62% to the low price of $5.99!

Improving on Perfection: Urban Decay's New Eyeshadow Formula in Buck and Freelove Review and Swatches

Urban Decay Eyeshadow New Formula in Freelove and Buck
Urban Decay New Eyeshadow Formula
Left: Freelove,  Right: Buck

When I learned that Urban Decay was reformulating their eyeshadow, I was skeptical. Wasn't their current formula stellar enough? I had my doubts that Urban Decay would be able to significantly improve their already high-quality eyeshadow.

Despite my reservations, I was pleasantly surprised once I gave the new shadows a try.

The first big change I noticed was increased silkiness. As fabulous as the old Urban Decay shadows were, certain shades felt a bit chalky to me. Now, the shadows apply more smoothly and evenly with no detectable fallout. This improved texture not only looks better, it feels more comfortable to apply on your delicate eyelids.

The second big change I noticed in Urban Decay's new eyeshadow formula was increased pigmentation. These shadows show up clearly and brightly with only a single swipe, even without primer. What you see in the pan is what you will see on your lids.

For this eye look, I applied Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Freelove to my lid and blended up to my browbone. I contoured the outer third of the crease and shaded my lid with Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Buck.

I have the old version of Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Buck from my Urban Decay Naked PaletteHere are the old formula and new formula swatched side by side:

Top: Old Formula,  Bottom: New Formula

This isn't a very fair contest, because I swatched more layers of the old formula for this picture. Still, I think you can see that the new formula has greater pigmentation and applies more evenly.

Interestingly, it appears that Urban Decay has altered the color of Buck as well.  The old version appears to be a lighter, more golden matte brown, while the new version of Buck is cooler and darker.

Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Freelove is a golden peach shimmer. This shade has a bright shine, strong pigmentation, and zero fallout.

Bottom Line: Even though their old formula was great, Urban Decay still had a few tricks up their sleeve to take their eyeshadow to the next level. Buck and Freelove both have increased pigmentation and improved texture that makes application a treat. I don't feel the need to rush out and replace all my Urban Decay shadows with the updated formula, but the increased quality will influence my eyeshadow purchases in years to come. I appreciate and really respect the way that Urban Decay has embraced innovation.
