Almay Intense I-Color Shadow Stick in Shade 030 For Hazel Eyes Review and Swatches

Almay Intense I-Color Shadow Stick in Shade 030 for Hazel Eyes
Almay Intense I-Color Shadow Stick in Shade 030 for Hazel Eyes

I haven't had amazing luck with shadow sticks (i.e. MAC Beth Ditto Shade and Smoke Shadow/Liner in Beth Mask), but I rolled the dice again with Almay Intense I-Color Shadow Stick in Shade 030 for Hazel Eyes ($7.99) to see how it compared. This double-ended cream shadow stick is definitely an improvement, but there are still some flaws that will keep this product from becoming one of my makeup mainstays.

Almay Intense I-Color Shadow Stick in Shade 030 For Hazel Eyes has an edge on other shadow sticks because of its extremely smooth application. The stick glides well across your lids and the shadow feels very creamy and blendable to the touch. However, both ends of the shadow stick are pretty wide, so it's difficult to be precise in your application. This product is best suited for simple looks.

Despite its name, Almay Intense I-Color Shadow Stick in Shade 030 For Hazel Eyes does not apply intensely at all. Instead, both of the colors apply very sheer and require quite a few layers to show up. Sheer color isn't necessarily a bad thing and I think Almay Intense I-Color Shadow Stick in Shade 030 For Hazel Eyes looks very pretty in person. However, the results look a bit smudgy in these photographs.

My eyes are blue, but I chose the duo intended for hazel eyes because of the appealing colors (they remind me of mocha!). Almay Intense I-Color Shadow Stick in Shade 030 For Hazel Eyes includes a greyish taupe with gold shimmer and pearly light pink.

I think these colors would look great with any eye color, particularly if you have cool-toned skin.

Bottom Line: Almay Intense I-Color Shadow Stick in Shade 030 For Hazel Eyes is far smoother and easier to use than some other stick shadows I've tried. Though the "Intense I-Color" name is a bit of a misnomer, this products works well for sheer, simple looks to flatter a variety of colorings. Almay Intense I-Color Shadow Stick For Hazel Eyes will likely work fine for you as long as you're not expecting strong pigmentation or plan to attempt elaborate looks.

Korres Lip Butter Glaze in Pomegranate Review and Swatches

Korres Lip Butter Glaze in Pomegranate
Korres Lip Butter Glaze in Pomegranate

You might be sick of hearing about moisturizing lip products after the recent flood of butters and balms, but I want to share one more product with you that I've had particularly good luck with. Korres Lip Butter Glaze in Pomegranate ($14) is an excellent product if you want color, shine, and tons of moisture in the form of a lip gloss rather than a balm.

Korres Lip Butter Glaze in Pomegranate does a great job of hydrating and smoothing your lips, even when you wear it over lipstick. Still, there are many products that provide great moisture. What sets Korres Lip Butter Glaze in Pomegranate apart is its 1) gorgeous, bright-yet-sheer color and 2) high-shine glossy finish.

I like my lips to have quite a bit of color and some other balms, butters, and glosses just don't measure up in the pigment department. I'm a coral fanatic, so I love the hot coral pink color of Korres Lip Butter Glaze in Pomegranate. You only need a small amount for this product to look gorgeous both on its own and layered over lipstick.

I've been consistently impressed with all of the Korres products I've tried. Their cosmetics are well-formulated and available in expertly-selected shades that are natural and flattering.

Sephora just released an exclusive, limited-edition set of four of Korres' best-selling products. The Korres Autumn Sunset Color Collection ($39) includes 1) Lip Butter Glaze in Pomegranate, 2) Wild Rose Mineral Illuminating Powder, 3) Zea Mays Blush in Peach and 4) Quercetin and Oak Anti-Aging Face Primer. I previously wrote a positive review of Korres Wild Rose Mineral Illuminating Powder, which was the first highlighter I ever used. The Korres Autumn Sunset Color Collection looks like a lovely set if you are interested in trying Korres products.

Have you experimented with Korres products? What do you think of the brand?

Revlon PhotoReady Cream Blush in Flushed Review and Swatches

Revlon PhotoReady Creme Blush in Flushed
Revlon PhotoReady Cream Blush in Flushed

I think Revlon PhotoReady Cream Blush in Flushed ($12.99) is the best cream blush I've tried so far.

Released as part of Revlon's Summer 2012 Collection, Revlon PhotoReady Cream Blush in Flushed has a silky, blendable texture that makes application a cinch, no matter your makeup skill level.

Revlon PhotoReady Cream Blush in Flushed stands out because of its uncommonly lightweight texture. It has a cream-to-powder formula that sets to a matte finish, and it blends with your skin so well that I couldn't detect any product when I placed my index finger directly on my cheek immediately after application.

I'm a sucker for hot pink blush, so I fell in love with the shade of Revlon PhotoReady Cream Blush in Flushed immediately. Although it looks quite bold in the pot, Flushed applies sheer so you can layer to get the intensity you want. I used about two layers to get this youthful and radiant look.

Though it's primarily pink, I definitely see hints of fuchsia in Revlon PhotoReady Cream Blush in Flushed. I swatched it alongside Illamasqua Powder Blusher in Tweak ($24) for a comparison:

Top: Revlon PhotoReady Cream Blush in Flushed Swatch
Bottom: Illamasqua Powder Blusher in Tweak Swatch

Though they're both hot pink blushes, there's no dupe here! The purple tones of Revlon PhotoReady Cream Blush in Flushed are easier to detect next to Illamasqua Powder Blusher in Tweak, while for its part Tweak shows that it is a more of a reddish, strawberry pink.

I'm so excited about this blush, you guys. I love the soft matte finish and I am so happy with the flattering hot pink shade. There is no doubt that the amazing texture and beautiful, sheer color are going to make Revlon PhotoReady Cream Blush in Flushed a mainstay in my makeup bag.

Yes to Blueberries Age Refresh Cleansing Facial Towelettes Review

One of the worst parts of wearing makeup is taking it off. When you've had a tiring day, standing at the bathroom sink and dabbing away your smoky eye sounds like so much work

Yes to Blueberries Age Refresh Cleansing Facial Towelettes
Yes to Blueberries Age Refresh Cleansing Facial Towelettes

That's where Yes to Blueberries Age Refresh Cleansing Facial Towelettes ($2.99 for 8 towelettes) come in. These moist, lemon-scented clothes are a great way to embrace your laziness while still keeping your skin happy.

Unlike harsh makeup remover, Yes to Blueberries Age Refresh Cleansing Facial Towelettes won't sting your eyes or dry out your skin. Instead, these gentle, all-natural cloths include moisturizing ingredients like sweet almond oil that leave your skin feeling soft.

I love using these large, 7 X 7 inch clothes to clean stubborn makeup off my face while I'm lying in bed. Unfortunately, the emollient ingredients feel a little filmy on my skin so I usually wash my face afterward. Yes to Blueberries Age Refresh Cleansing Facial Towelettes serve as a replacement for makeup remover rather than cleanser for me. I think that people with dry skin would have better luck using these clothes for cleansing than I do.

Yes to Blueberries Age Refresh Cleansing Facial Towelettes also come in a larger, 30-pack size under the name Yes to Blueberries Brightening Facial Towelettes ($7.99). Considering that an 8-pack is $2.99, buying the 30-pack size is like receiving 9 towelettes free.

Thanks to my friend Tammy from Make-Up Wishes for giving me these Yes to Blueberries Age Refresh Cleansing Facial Towelettes to try. I love getting to relax while I remove my makeup with these soothing towelettes, and the price is so low that I plan on stocking up when I run out.

Rimmel London Glam'Eyes HD Quad Eye Shadow in 006 Purple Reign Review and Swatches

Rimmel London Glam'Eyes HD Quad Eye Shadow in 006 Purple Reign
Rimmel London Glam'Eyes HD Quad Eye Shadow in Purple Reign

Maybe it's just my twisted sense of humor, but I thought it would be apropos to look at this product from jolly old England on the Fourth of July!  It's been over two hundred years since Independence, U.S.-British relations have healed -- why not have some fun playing with this adorable, Union Jack-themed product from Rimmel London?

Rimmel London Glam'Eyes HD Quad Eye Shadow in Purple Reign ($6.49) is a fantastic drugstore eye shadow quad. The formula manages to be extremely high quality at a very low price. The pigmentation is FAB and each shadow is super soft and blendable.

Rimmel London Glam'Eyes HD Quad Eye Shadow in Purple Reign includes a dark, greyish purple shimmer, a muted medium purple shimmer, a fuchsia-pink shimmer, and a bright, silvery-white shimmer. The white shade in particular is extremely densely pigmented, so it shows up quite intensely and provides an eye-popping contrast for the purple shades.

For this look, I applied the white shade from Rimmel London Glam'Eyes HD Quad Eye Shadow in Purple Reign to my lid and brow bone. I patted the darkest purple shade into the crease and blended the fuchsia shadow in between the crease and brow bone.

Look at that bright white shimmer!

I love how the purple shades in Rimmel London Glam'Eyes HD Quad Eye Shadow in Purple Reign are all pretty different from one another while still being complementary. This opens up many options for experimentation and exploring new eye shadow looks.

The only problem I have with Rimmel London Glam'Eyes HD Quad Eye Shadow in Purple Reign is that some of the shadows are very small and difficult to swipe up with a brush. I adore the Union Jack design so much, but it makes application more challenging than it needs to be.

Rimmel London Glam'Eyes HD Quad Eye Shadow in Purple Reign does not appear to available on Rimmel's website, but you can find it in stores or online outlets like Amazon or Drugstore.com. Purple lovers should definitely check this one out!

MATTE NAILS: Chanel Beaute Des Ongles Mat Top Coat Velvet and Revlon Nail Enamel in Teak Rose Review and Swatches

Matte nail polish is a trend that's been floating around for the past year or two, but reactions have been mixed. Some people think the concept is bizarre or unappealing, while others find the matte look to be chic and sexy.

After experimenting with Chanel Beaute Des Ongles Mat Top Coat Velvet ($26), I can say that I fall firmly in the "Love" camp.

Revlon Nail Enamel in Teak Rose

For these photos, I first applied two coats of Revlon Nail Enamel in Teak Rose ($4.99), which is a deep brownish wine color. While it's not really a summer shade, I thought the dark, redwood tones of Revlon Nail Enamel in Teak Rose would look fabulous and edgy with a matte finish. Then I applied Chanel Beaute Des Ongles Mat Top Coat Velvet on my thumb, index and middle fingers so you could see the Before and After.

I am so happy with the results! Chanel Beaute Des Ongles Mat Top Coat Velvet lightens the color of the polish a little bit and leaves a gorgeous, suede-like finish. After taking these photos, I applied the top coat to all of my nails and I can't stop admiring the chic matte look.

One word of warning: If your color polish is uneven or sheer in any spots, Chanel Beaute Des Ongles Mat Top Coat Velvet will magnify that and your nails will look smudgy. Be sure the apply several coats of even color before applying the top coat to achieve a perfect manicure.

Chanel Beaute Des Ongles Mat Top Coat Velvet has been available for almost a year, but it is marked as limited edition. I have no idea when it will be discontinued! It's still available on Nordstrom's website for the time being, so you may want to grab this unique, stylish product before it's gone.

L'Oreal Colour Riche Balm in Caring Coral Review and Swatches

L'Oreal Colour Riche Balm in Caring Coral
L'Oreal Colour Riche Balm in Caring Coral

Are you looking for moisture, sun protection, and just a hint of natural color for your lips?

If so, head down to your local drugstore to give L'Oreal Colour Riche Balm in Caring Coral ($7.95) a try.

L'Oreal Colour Riche Balm in Caring Coral is smooth, non-sticky, and leaves your lips feeling moisturized long after you take it off. Plus, the light glossy texture gives a nice dose of shine for pretty, low-key lips.

L'Oreal Colour Riche Balm in Caring Coral

L'Oreal Colour Riche Balm in Caring Coral has SPF 15 to protect your lips from sun damage. Lips definitely show age, but many lip balms leave out SPF. I tend to rate products more highly that remember this very important ingredient.

The sleek gold packaging of L'Oreal Colour Riche Balm in Caring Coral looks so chic and fancy. I don't buy products just for the packaging, but attractive design is always a nice bonus! L'Oreal Colour Riche Balm in Caring Coral also has a mild vanilla scent with a hint of sweet fruitiness.

L'Oreal Colour Riche Balm in Caring Coral Swatch
L'Oreal Colour Riche Balm in Caring Coral Swatch

L'Oreal Colour Riche Balm in Caring Coral has a coral-pink tint, but the formula is super sheer. I find that it deepens my natural lip color by about half a notch.

So how does this product compare to the crazy-popular Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters?

While the two products are similar, they are not identical. L'Oreal Colour Riche Balm in Caring Coral is much more sheer and less pigmented. Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters do not include sun protection. The starting price of L'Oreal Colour Riche Balms is a dollar or so higher, but both products are often on sale.

I think that both the L'Oreal Colour Riche Balms and Revlon Lip Butters are great products. If you prefer more pigmentation, I think that Revlon Lip Butters are a better option. But if you're looking for a very sheer, natural-looking balm with sun protection, L'Oreal Colour Riche Balm in Caring Coral will be perfect for you.
