Julep Nail Vernis in Stefani Review and Swatches

Julep Nail Vernis in Stefani Swatch
Julep Nail Vernis in Stefani

What a great cold weather nail polish!

Julep Nail Vernis in Stefani ($14) is the first Julep polish I've tried and I am quite impressed. The brush fans out widely so it's easy to coat your nail, and the polish applies evenly and dries FAST. The coverage is good as well, reaching full opacity with 2 coats (but you could get away with one). I wore Julep Nail Vernis in Stefani without a base or top coat and it lasted five days without noticeable chipping. Pretty good, huh?

In addition to the nice quality, Julep Nail Vernis in Stefani is a really interesting shade. It's a smokey gunmetal silver with hints of blue and green, all spiked with tiny flecks of gold glitter. I think that this color would work well on both warm and cool-toned people and is perfect for Fall and Winter fashion. It's got a glamorous, dramatic flair that makes me feel a little vamp-y when I look down at my hands!

Julep is an expansive polish line that includes over 100 shades. Like Zoya, the products are free of toxic DBP, toluene, and formaldehyde. I don't think Julep is free of animal products though, so stick to Zoya if you're looking for a vegan nail polish. Nevertheless, I think that Julep might have an edge on Zoya when it comes to smooth application and rapid dry time.

Overall, I'm really happy with Julep Nail Vernis in Stefani. It's an interesting, pretty color and the quality is quite good. I can't wait to try more Julep shades in the future.

What's your fav nail brand? Are you a Julep Nail Vernis fan?

Dr. Jart V7 Beaty Balm Review and Swatches

Dr. Jart V7 Beaty Balm Review and Swatches
Dr. Jart V7 Beaty Balm

I am so, so disappointed with this product. Even though Dr. Jart is considered one of the best brands for BB creams, Dr. Jart V7 Beaty Balm ($36) left me feeling anything but beautiful.

Dr. Jart V7 Beaty Balm is creamy to the touch but applies very heavily and is difficult to blend. I felt like I was spreading putty on my face! The lack of blendability means that quite a bit of product is needed to cover your entire face, and I ultimately felt like I was wearing a mask. The mask-like feeling intensifies as Dr. Jart V7 Beaty Balm sets to an uncomfortable, overly matte finish.

This product is only available in one shade that supposedly works for all skin tones. Wrong! Nothing could be further from the truth. Dr. Jart V7 Beaty Balm has a pale, grey-tinged shade that DOES NOT adapt to your skin tone. I hate how ashy and unattractive this BB cream makes my complexion look. I think that Dr. Jart V7 Beaty Balm will only work for people who happen to have this particular shade of very pale skin.

Despite its heavy texture, Dr. Jart V7 Beaty Balm does not provide amazing coverage. It covers some blemishes but seems to accentuate pores and uneven surfaces of the skin. If I'm going to look like a ghost, I'd rather look like a smooth, glowing ghost, please.

For fairness' sake, I will admit that Dr. Jart V7 Beaty Balm has a few good points. First, it provides SPF 30 in the form of gentle minerals titanium dioxide and zinc oxide and includes skin-healthy Vitamins A, B, C and E. Additionally, Dr. Jart V7 Beaty Balm effectively keeps oily skin at bay and has good lasting power.

However, good lasting power is more of a curse than a blessing when you hate how a product looks and feels! I can't wait to get Dr. Jart V7 Beaty Balm OFF my face whenever I wear it. If that's not enough of a testament of my intense dislike for this product, I don't know what is.

Bottom Line: Dr. Jart V7 Beaty Balm is one of the worst skincare/makeup products I've tried on my face. I haven't tested Dr. Jart's other products, so perhaps the other BB creams from this line are better. All I can say is that you can skip V7 for sure!

Disney Cinderella Collection by Sephora Midnight Hour Eyeshadow Palette Review and Swatches

Disney Cinderella Collection by Sephora Midnight Hour Eyeshadow Palette Review
Disney Cinderella Collection by Sephora Midnight Hour Eyeshadow Palette

I may not be a huge Disney Princess fan, but the Disney Cinderella Collection by Sephora Midnight Hour Eyeshadow Palette ($30) is so charming that I can't help but fall in love with its sweet glamour. This limited edition, Sephora exclusive eyeshadow palette is from an eight-piece Cinderella collection that includes lips, nails, eyes, fragrance, and beauty tools. More Disney princesses are due to get the Sephora treatment in the future, so keep an eye out for your favorite!

If you're a sucker for packaging, the Disney Cinderella Collection by Sephora Midnight Hour Eyeshadow Palette will surely appeal to your girlish side with its absolutely delightful presentation. It comes in a light teal box with gold embossing, and the quad itself is packaged in an ivory plastic case with lovely artwork. The image is of Cinderella descending the castle staircase as the golden clock in the upper right corner strikes midnight. You can see the prince looking after her from the top of the staircase, which I think is a nice touch. Inside, the shadows are set within a glam gold border and there's a mirror with the inscription "It's the exit he'll remember."

Not only is the presentation impeccable, but the quality of the shadows is good too. The Disney Cinderella Collection by Sephora Midnight Hour Eyeshadow Palette includes a snowflake shimmer, a champagne nude shimmer, a light blue/grey shimmer, and a shimmery navy with glitter. All of the shadows are very soft and silky. The snowflake shimmer and the champagne nude shimmer are both extremely pigmented, but I wish that the two blue shades had more pop. Primer and wet application will give these shades better payoff.

I think this quad would look best on cool-toned people, but I really love the champagne nude shade. Combined with the other three colors, I can create a smokey eye that creates a nice contrast against my blonde hair.

These shadows have pretty typical wear time for me -- about four hours before they start to crease without primer, and all day wear with a good base.

For this look, I applied the champagne nude shade from lash line to browbone. I then applied the light blue/grey shimmer to my lid and lined my upper lashline with the shimmery navy. I used the shimmery snowflake to highlight the inner corner of my eye and browbone. I really love the wintery pop of this white shade!

Bottom Line: I believe that the Disney Cinderella Collection by Sephora Midnight Hour Eyeshadow Palette is pretty much a must-have for girly Disney fans, but other people will likely have a lot of fun with this product too. The color selection is nice and the quality of the shadows ranges from good to great. This palette can create shimmery smokey eyes that are perfect for cool weather and could make a great gift. The primary drawback is that the blue shades don't have incredible color payoff. All of the shadows are shimmery as well, which could be a problem if you like your eyeshadow palettes to include matte options.
